Watch the Needles live – the Isle of Wight’s most famous and iconic landmark. Situated at Alum Bay, this spectacular site is world-renowned for its chairlift rides, coloured sands, chalk cliffs, and Needles lighthouse.

The Needles are made up of three striking chalk stacks rising 30m from the Solent, with the lighthouse guarding the western tip. The landmark takes its name from a fourth, needle-shaped rock called Lot’s Wife, which collapsed in a storm in 1764. Today, the Needles remain a dramatic reminder of the Island’s natural power, often recording the UK’s highest wind speeds during storm season.

On the cliffs above, explore the Old and New Needles Battery, part of a National Trust site designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The National Coastwatch Institution’s Needles Station also overlooks this incredible seascape.
