Notes: Nest boxes are monitored as part of research at the Shamir Research Institute and the University of Haifa. Cameras were added for research and observation. Some pairs fail due to food shortages, which is a natural part of their evolution. Watch Dr. Motti Charter's lecture: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Lw2hgQefgc

Some viewers comment on nest cleanliness. Barn owls lack a sense of smell and bring dead animals to the nest; some may rot. They do not clean nests, which remain dirty until they collapse or fill up. We clean boxes once per year, making them cleaner than natural nests. Cleaning more often may cause abandonment and remove beneficial insects.
